Now more than ever, healthcare organizations are struggling to understand why people are changing jobs. On the tail of a global pandemic, frontline providers were affected by their experiences in unprecedented ways, including how they view career decisions. Research shows that exit interviews may not be a reliable source of data, so how can we be sure our retention and recruitment efforts are targeted correctly? A study was developed to gather this type of data in a non-threatening format. The results illuminate why healthcare workers are choosing to change jobs and can be used to inform recruitment and retention efforts. This talk will show both the results of this case study and present the replicable method of data collection for use at other organizations.

Upon completion of this presentation, participants will be able to:

• Describe the current drivers behind provider job changes in the healthcare industry today.
• Identify how providers’ experiences during the COVID-19 pandemic have affected their career decisions.
• Implement a novel approach for gathering turnover data in their own organizations in ways that support employee retention and targeted recruitment efforts.

Speaker Bio:

Dr. Carrie Moore is the Executive Recruiter for Dartmouth Health, the academic health system connected to Dartmouth College in New Hampshire. Prior to this role, Carrie worked for other health systems, including Geisinger and Tower Health. With a lifelong love of education, she has completed both an MBA and a doctorate in Healthcare Management. Carrie speaks at a variety of venues to inform leadership, recruitment, and retention strategies and to inspire attendees to consider their own career paths in new ways.
