2020 NAHCR Award Winners

Cindy Fife Scholarship Award

In her essay, Angie shared that she became interested in health care recruitment when one of her early jobs as the Director of Career Services at a medical college allowed her to interact with health care recruiters. When the college closed, she jumped at the chance to change careers, applying for, and getting, a recruiter position at Hancock Regional Health, a non-profit county hospital outside Indianapolis. She attributes much of the success in her career as a health care recruiter to the Indiana Association for Healthcare Recruiting, which has provided her with invaluable resources. She’s now giving back to the chapter by serving as its current President-Elect.

Distinguished Member Award

Desiree is a “scrapper”, for those who remember the presentation by 2019 Annual Conference keynote speaker Regina Hartley. In college, she worked as a hospital valet driver to help pay for school, learning on the job how to drive a manual car. She worked her way through various roles at that same hospital before landing in recruitment. She joined her local NAHCR chapter in 2016. Just a few short years later, she’s earned her CHCR and is serving as the President of NAHCR’s Indiana Chapter. She loves educating others, especially high school students, on health care careers. She is passionate about nurturing and growing others and she has a positive attitude that is contagious.

Lifetime Achievement Award

Julie began her career as a registered nurse at Tidelands Georgetown Memorial Hospital in 1985 and then worked in various roles in the Columbia area before returning to the beach and what is now Tidelands Health in 2005. As a talent acquisition coordinator, Julie recruits for clinical positions, including nurses, pharmacists, physical therapists and more. She also helps coordinate travel nurses, handles licensing and certifications and assists with education.

She's lost count a long time ago of how many professionals she’s recruited to Tidelands Health, but needless to say, it’s a lot. In addition to recruiting talent, Julie has helped improve the hiring process through the years. For example, she helped develop a more streamlined, efficient system for checking references of potential hires that is still in place today.

Julie’s dedication to the field has had an impact on NAHCR as well. Julie has been a NAHCR member since 2008. The hours she has volunteered over the years have been countless. Julie has served on multiple NAHCR teams and for many years on the board in a variety of roles, culminating in her service as president from 2015 to 2017. She led the association through a reinvention that increased membership from both recruiters and vendors.
